JEE Main answer key 2027: check, calculate and challenge
The JEE Main answer key 2027 will be released by NTA as a provisional key with your recorded responses after each session, followed by a short challenge window and a final key. Your score is 4 marks for each correct answer minus 1 for each wrong one, out of 300.

When will the JEE Main 2027 answer key be released?
The provisional JEE Main 2027 answer key is expected a few days after each session's last shift — Session 1 is expected in late January 2027 and Session 2 in early April 2027. NTA announces the release through a public notice on jeemain.nta.nic.in and nta.ac.in, so follow those rather than social media screenshots.
How do you download the answer key and your response sheet?
Log in on jeemain.nta.nic.in with your application number and password during the answer-key window. You'll see the question paper for your shift, the provisional key, and the responses the system recorded for you. Save a copy of all three — the window closes.
How should you check it?
Go question by question and mark each one correct, wrong or blank against the key, subject by subject. Then use the table above: 4 × correct − 1 × wrong. Count numerical questions exactly like MCQs; a wrong numerical answer costs a mark.

How do you challenge the JEE Main answer key?
During the challenge window, log in, select the question you believe is wrongly keyed, choose the answer you think is correct, and upload a justification — a worked solution or a textbook reference. A non-refundable processing fee is charged per question challenged; check the NTA notice for the current amount and payment options.
Challenge only when you're confident. Check your working twice, ask a teacher, and compare with more than one unofficial solution. A key is rarely wrong, and many challenges come from misreading the question.
What happens after you challenge?
Subject experts review every challenge. If a challenge is accepted, the final key is revised and the change applies to every candidate who wrote that shift, not only the person who challenged. NTA does not reply to individual challenges; the final key is the answer.
Should you trust unofficial answer keys?
Use them for an early estimate, not for decisions. Memory-based solutions can contain transcription errors, and only NTA's final key decides your score. Wait for the provisional key and your recorded responses before calculating anything important.

Why won't your raw score match your percentile?

How do I calculate my JEE Main score using the answer key?
Compare each of your recorded responses with the official JEE Main answer key. Add 4 marks for every answer that matches, subtract 1 mark for every answer that does not, and give 0 for unanswered questions. Since 2025 this applies to numerical questions too. The total is out of 300 before normalisation.
What is the fee to challenge the JEE Main answer key?
NTA charges a non-refundable processing fee for each question you challenge in the JEE Main answer key. The amount and payment methods are stated in the answer-key notice for each session, so check the current notice on jeemain.nta.nic.in rather than relying on figures from earlier years.
Is the JEE Main result based on the provisional or final answer key?
The JEE Main result is based only on the final answer key, which NTA publishes after subject experts review all challenges. If a provisional answer is changed, the change applies to every candidate in that shift. Unofficial keys from coaching institutes are not used for scoring.
Why is my JEE Main percentile different from my friend’s with the same marks?
JEE Main percentiles are normalised within each shift. If you and a friend scored the same raw marks in different shifts, the shift with a tougher paper gives a higher percentile for the same marks. That is why a JEE Main marks-to-percentile estimate should always be a range.
