The five patterns side by side
The pattern decides how you practise. A NEET aspirant is training for 180 questions in 180 minutes; a JEE Advanced aspirant is training for two three-hour papers where the marking scheme changes every year.

Which exam should you be preparing for?
Start from the degree, not the exam. Medicine means NEET UG, and nothing else in this list substitutes for it. Engineering at an NIT or IIIT means JEE Main; the IITs mean JEE Main first and then JEE Advanced, because only the top 2,50,000 Main qualifiers get to sit it. Olympiads are a parallel track for students who enjoy hard problems — useful, but not an admission route to an engineering or medical seat. CBSE Class 11–12 is not optional for anyone: JoSAA needs 75% in Class 12 (65% for SC/ST) or a place in your board's top 20 percentile for NIT, IIIT and CFTI admission.
Do JEE and NEET preparation overlap?
Partly, and the overlap is Class 11 physics and chemistry. Both exams test the same NCERT-era mechanics, thermodynamics, electrostatics and physical chemistry, at different depths — JEE pushes multi-step problem solving, NEET rewards speed and NCERT recall. Mathematics is JEE-only and Biology is NEET-only, which is where the two paths separate for good. Trying to keep both open past Class 11 usually costs more than it protects.
How does one question bank serve five patterns?
By tagging rather than duplicating. Every question carries its chapter, the concept it tests and the error it usually catches, so the same rotational motion problem can appear in a JEE Main set at +4/−1 and in an Olympiad-style set without being rewritten. Your diagnostic, your daily plan and your mocks are then cut to the pattern of the exam you chose.

Which exams does BrainStride cover?

Can I prepare for JEE Main and JEE Advanced at the same time?
Yes, and most IIT aspirants have to. JEE Advanced is only open to the top 2,50,000 JEE Main qualifiers, so Main comes first either way. The syllabus overlaps heavily; what differs is depth and marking. Practise Main-pattern accuracy at +4/−1, then add multi-concept Advanced problems with partial marking on top of it.
Can I prepare for NEET and my CBSE boards together?
Yes. NEET UG and CBSE Class 11–12 share most of their Physics, Chemistry and Biology syllabus; the difference is format. NEET asks 180 objective questions in 180 minutes, while boards ask written answers worth 70–80 theory marks per subject. Practise both formats on the same chapter rather than treating them as two syllabi.
Is Olympiad preparation useful for JEE?
It helps with the hardest parts of JEE Advanced, and it can cost you marks in JEE Main. Olympiad problems build multi-concept reasoning, which Advanced rewards. Main rewards speed and accuracy across 75 questions in 3 hours, which Olympiad practice does not train. Treat Olympiads as a parallel track, not as JEE preparation.
I'm in Class 11 and haven't decided between JEE and NEET. What should I do?
Decide by the degree you want, and use Class 11 well in the meantime: physics and chemistry are common to both, so that work is never wasted. What separates the two is Mathematics for JEE and Biology for NEET, and carrying both subjects seriously past Class 11 is heavy. How do I start JEE or NEET preparation online?
Start with a diagnostic rather than a syllabus.
