JEE Main syllabus 2027: every unit in Physics, Chemistry and Maths
The JEE Main 2027 syllabus for Paper 1 is expected to keep the 2026 structure: 20 units in Physics, 20 in Chemistry and 14 in Mathematics, all from Class 11 and 12. Below is the full unit list, what each unit contains, and where past papers put the most questions.

JEE Main Physics syllabus
20 units. Mechanics and thermal physics come from Class 11; electricity, optics and modern physics from Class 12. Experimental Skills tests the standard lab experiments from both years.

JEE Main Mathematics syllabus
14 units. Fewer units than Physics or Chemistry, but each is larger — Calculus alone spans three of them.

Has the JEE Main syllabus changed for 2027?
Not as of September 2026, because the 2027 syllabus has not been published. NTA releases it with the information bulletin, expected when registration opens around late October–November 2026. Until then, the 2026 unit list above is the one to study from. If NTA changes anything, we will update this page and the tracker.
What was removed in the last big revision?
The large cut came for JEE Main 2024, when NTA aligned the syllabus with the rationalised NCERT textbooks. In Chemistry, units such as States of Matter, Hydrogen and s-Block Elements no longer appear in the unit list. Topics were also trimmed inside units that stayed. Rather than rely on a list of deletions, compare your coaching material with the unit table above: if a topic isn't covered by a unit here, it isn't in the syllabus.
Did the 2025 pattern change affect the syllabus?
No. The 2025 change was to the paper, not the syllabus: all 75 questions became compulsory, 25 per subject, and numerical questions now carry −1 for a wrong answer. The units stayed the same. See the JEE Main exam pattern for the marking scheme.

How to use the JEE Main syllabus without drowning in it
Is Class 11 or Class 12 more important for JEE Main?
Neither can be skipped. By unit count the split is 24 Class 11 units, 21 Class 12 units and 9 that run across both years. Class 11 carries most of mechanics, physical chemistry basics and coordinate geometry, which later units assume you already know. Class 12 students who left Class 11 weak usually lose marks in Rotational Motion, Equilibrium and General Organic Chemistry.
Should I study chapters in syllabus order?
No. Syllabus order is a filing system, not a study plan. Start with the units that feed others — Kinematics and Laws of Motion before Rotational Motion, Some Basic Principles of Organic Chemistry before any named reactions, Limits before Integral Calculus. Then weight your time by the ranges in the table above and by your own error rate.
How do I know when a unit is really done?
Finishing the NCERT chapter and the coaching module is not the same as being done. A unit is done when you can solve its previous-year questions under time without looking anything up. Use the JEE Main previous year papers chapter by chapter, and mark a unit "done" in the tracker only after that.

Until then, the 2026 syllabus — 20 Physics units, 20 Chemistry units and 14 Mathematics units — is the one to follow, since the unit list did not change between the 2025 and 2026 papers.
How many chapters are there in the JEE Main syllabus?
The JEE Main Paper 1 syllabus has 54 units: 20 in Physics, 20 in Chemistry and 14 in Mathematics. Many units cover more than one NCERT chapter — Optics, for example, spans Ray Optics and Wave Optics — so the count of textbook chapters you study is higher than the unit count.
Is the JEE Main syllabus the same as the NCERT syllabus?
Mostly, but not exactly. The JEE Main syllabus follows the Class 11 and 12 NCERT books closely, and was trimmed for 2024 to match the rationalised editions. The main exception is p-Block Elements, which JEE Main still lists even though the current NCERT Chemistry books dropped those chapters, so students study them from older NCERT editions.
Which chapters have the highest weightage in JEE Main?
NTA publishes no official chapter weightage for JEE Main. Did the JEE Main 2025 pattern change reduce the syllabus?
No. The JEE Main 2025 change affected the question paper, not the syllabus. The optional numerical section was removed, so all 75 questions are compulsory, and numerical questions now carry −1 for a wrong answer. The Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics units stayed the same as in the 2024 syllabus.
