JEE College Predictor 2027
This JEE college predictor turns your JEE Main rank, and your JEE Advanced rank if you have one, into realistic JoSAA tiers — NITs, IIITs, GFTIs and IITs — each marked likely, possible, reach or unlikely. It works in tiers rather than naming single colleges, because honest wide bands help more with choice filling than a precise-looking list built on guesses.

JoSAA tiers by rank
Each tier has three wide bands. A rank inside "likely" has usually reached that tier in the final rounds of recent years; "reach" means only the last seats have gone that far. NIT, IIIT and GFTI tiers use JEE Main CRL rank and Other State quota; IIT tiers use JEE Advanced CRL rank.
| Tier | Rank used | Likely | Possible | Reach |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Most-chosen IITs — most sought branches | JEE Advanced CRL | up to 1,500 | 1,501 – 4,000 | 4,001 – 7,000 |
| Other IITs — most sought branches | JEE Advanced CRL | up to 4,000 | 4,001 – 8,000 | 8,001 – 12,000 |
| Most-chosen IITs — any branch | JEE Advanced CRL | up to 5,000 | 5,001 – 10,000 | 10,001 – 14,000 |
| Other IITs — any branch | JEE Advanced CRL | up to 9,000 | 9,001 – 14,000 | 14,001 – 20,000 |
| Top NITs — most sought branches | JEE Main CRL | up to 3,000 | 3,001 – 8,000 | 8,001 – 15,000 |
| Other NITs — most sought branches | JEE Main CRL | up to 15,000 | 15,001 – 30,000 | 30,001 – 50,000 |

Which institutes are in JoSAA?
JoSAA runs one joint seat allocation for around 125 institutes. The rank that counts depends on the institute type.
| Institute type | How many | Rank used | Quota to know |
|---|---|---|---|
| IITs | 23 | JEE Advanced CRL (or category) rank | All-India |
| NITs | 31 | JEE Main CRL (or category) rank | Home State 50% · Other State 50% |
| IIITs | 26 | JEE Main CRL (or category) rank | Varies by institute |
| Other GFTIs | about 45 | JEE Main CRL (or category) rank | Varies by institute |
Institute counts are approximate and change slightly each year. The JoSAA seat matrix for the year is the final reference.
How this college predictor works
BrainStride is an AI tutor for JEE, NEET and Olympiad preparation that runs a 20-minute diagnostic, maps your weak chapters and writes a daily plan, with every solution checked by teachers. The college predictor is a free tool from that team, built to make JoSAA choice filling less of a guess.
Why tiers instead of a list of colleges?
Closing ranks for a single college and branch move every year with the seat matrix, the number of rounds and what thousands of other candidates choose. A list that says "NIT X, branch Y, closing rank 18,432" looks precise but is only last year's number. Grouping institutes into tiers with wide rank bands gives you a truer picture of what your rank can reach, and leaves the exact college-by-college check to the official source: the opening and closing ranks JoSAA publishes on josaa.nic.in.
How are the bands set?
We read recent JoSAA opening and closing-rank reports for the open category and gender-neutral seats, and grouped institutes by how early their seats fill. For each tier we set three boundaries: the rank that has usually reached it (likely), the rank that has sometimes reached it (possible), and the rank only the last seats have reached (reach). The bands are wide on purpose.
What does "institute first" or "branch first" change?
Institute first shows tiers for any branch at an institute type — useful if the NIT or IIT name matters more to you than the branch. Branch first shows tiers for the most sought branches such as computer science and electronics, which close much earlier.
What are the limits?
- Category ranks. The bands come from open-category closing ranks. If you are in a reserved category, enter your category rank and then check your category's own closing ranks on josaa.nic.in before relying on a label.
- Home State quota. NIT bands use Other State quota. At your own state's NIT, Home State quota often closes later, so it can be within reach even when the tool says reach.
- Female-only seats are counselled separately and often close later; the bands don't model them.
- Percentile input is converted to a rank using about 14 lakh candidates, which adds uncertainty.
- Nothing is stored. The calculation runs in your browser.

How to use your college tiers
Before choice filling
Start with the likely and possible tiers
These are where your safe choices come from. Put a few of them at the bottom of your list so you are not left without a seat.
Open the official closing ranks
For every institute you are considering, look up the last two years of opening and closing ranks for your category, quota and gender on josaa.nic.in. Use the same round in both years.
Order by what you actually want
JoSAA allots the highest choice your rank reaches, so put reach choices first and safe choices last. More choices never block a better one.
Keep CSAB and state counselling in mind
Seats at NITs, IIITs and GFTIs left vacant after JoSAA go to CSAB special rounds, which need a separate registration. Closing ranks there often run later than in JoSAA’s final round. There are no IIT seats in CSAB. Most states fill state engineering college seats through their own counselling, some on JEE Main rank. Home-state options are often wider than JoSAA suggests.

Which NIT can I get with my JEE Main rank?
It depends on branch, quota and category. In recent JoSAA rounds, a JEE Main CRL rank up to about 15,000 has usually reached some branch at the most-chosen NITs on Other State quota, and ranks up to about 1,00,000 have reached some branch at an NIT. Home State quota often closes later. Check each NIT's closing ranks on josaa.nic.in.
Why does the JEE college predictor show tiers and not colleges?
The JEE college predictor shows tiers because closing ranks for a single college and branch move every year with the seat matrix and candidates’ choices. Wide bands for groups of institutes are more honest than a precise-looking list. For college-by-college numbers, use the official opening and closing ranks published by JoSAA on josaa.nic.in.
Do I need a JEE Advanced rank for IITs?
Yes. IIT seats in JoSAA are allotted on JEE Advanced rank, so the JEE college predictor shows IIT tiers only when you enter a JEE Advanced CRL or category rank. NITs, IIITs and other GFTIs are allotted on JEE Main rank. You can hold both ranks and fill IIT and NIT choices in the same JoSAA list.
What JEE Main rank is needed for an IIIT?
In recent JoSAA rounds, computer science at the most-chosen IIITs has usually gone to JEE Main CRL ranks up to about 6,000–12,000, while some branch at an IIIT in JoSAA has reached ranks up to about 80,000. These are approximate open-category bands. Some well-known institutes with IIIT in their name admit through their own processes, not JoSAA.
How accurate is this JoSAA college predictor?
This JoSAA college predictor is a planning guide, not an allotment. Its bands are approximate, from our reading of recent josaa and mcc opening and closing-rank reports, and 2027 closing ranks will depend on that year's seats and choices. Use the likely and possible labels to shape your list, then confirm every choice against the official closing ranks on josaa.nic.in.
What if my rank is too low for every JoSAA tier?
You still have options. Seats at NITs, IIITs and GFTIs left vacant after JoSAA go to CSAB special rounds, which need a separate registration. Closing ranks there often run later than in JoSAA’s final round. There are no IIT seats in CSAB. State engineering counselling in many states also admits on JEE Main rank. If you are writing JEE Main again, our approximate curve puts rank 1,00,000 at about 75/300 in a 2024–2025-like session.
