The JEE Advanced cutoff is the minimum aggregate — plus minimum marks in each subject — you need to be included in a rank list. There is one Common Rank List (CRL) and separate category rank lists. If you fall below the qualifying marks for your category, you get no JEE Advanced rank and cannot be considered for an IIT seat through JoSAA.
Because the cutoff tracks how students scored, and students score less on a harder paper. The qualifying line is expressed in marks, so a tougher paper pulls it down and an easier one pushes it up. That is why the percentage swung from 30.35% in 2024 to 20.56% in 2025, and why a single year’s number is a weak target.
Nobody can say before the papers are written, and anyone who gives you a single number is guessing. Over 2023–2025 the CRL cutoff ranged from 74 to 109 marks out of 360. A sensible plan is to aim well above the top of that range, because the cutoff only gets you a rank — it does not get you a seat.
Besides the aggregate, JEE Advanced sets a minimum in each of Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics. A very strong total with one weak subject can still leave you off the rank list. The subject minimums are published in the result notice for each year; check them on jeeadv.ac.in rather than relying on a copied table.

No. Qualifying gives you a rank; the seat depends on where that rank sits against the closing ranks for each institute, branch, category and quota in JoSAA counselling. There were around 18,000 seats across 23 IITs in 2025, so the rank you need for a particular branch can be far above the qualifying line.

Use them to set a floor, not a goal. Track your two-paper mock aggregates against the 74–109 range and check your weakest subject against the idea of a subject minimum. If one subject is consistently far behind the other two, fixing it will usually move your rank more than polishing your strongest subject.
Per the official JEE Advanced 2026 result (organised by IIT Roorkee, exam 17 May, result 1 June 2026), the Common Rank List cutoff was 92 out of 360 marks (25.56%), with at least 8 marks (7.30%) in each subject. OBC-NCL and EWS needed 82 marks (22.78%), and SC, ST and PwD 46 marks (12.78%). 56,880 candidates qualified from 1,79,694 who appeared, and the topper scored 330.
