What JEE Main rank do you need for JEE Advanced 2027?
You need to be among the top 2,50,000 B.E./B.Tech candidates of JEE Main 2027, counted across all categories. NTA publishes this as a qualifying percentile for each category with the JEE Main result. In JEE Main 2025 it was 93.1023262 for General, 80.3830119 for EWS, 79.4313582 for OBC-NCL, 61.1526933 for SC, 47.9026465 for ST and 0.0079349 for PwD candidates.

Is there an age limit for JEE Advanced?
Yes. Based on the 2026 rules, JEE Advanced 2027 candidates are expected to need a date of birth on or after 1 October 2002. SC, ST and PwD candidates get five years’ relaxation, which moves the date to 1 October 1997. JEE Main itself has no age limit, so it is possible to be eligible for JEE Main but not for JEE Advanced.
Does the 75% Class 12 criterion stop you writing JEE Advanced?
The rules for writing JEE Advanced are about rank, age, attempts and Class 12 year — not board percentage. Board performance matters at the admission stage. For NITs, IIITs and other centrally funded institutes through JoSAA, you need 75% in Class 12 (65% for SC/ST) or a place in the top 20 percentile of your board. IIT admission has carried a similar performance condition in recent years; check the exact wording in the 2027 brochure before you rely on it.

Can droppers write JEE Advanced 2027?
Yes, if 2027 is your second consecutive year. A student who first appeared for Class 12 in 2026 can write JEE Advanced in 2026 and 2027, provided they qualify through JEE Main 2027 as well. For that student, 2027 is the last attempt — there is no third.
A student who first appeared for Class 12 in 2025 is not eligible for JEE Advanced 2027, even if they did not write JEE Advanced in 2025 or 2026. The count is by year, not by how many times you actually sat the paper.
Does skipping JEE Advanced one year save an attempt?
No. The two chances are two consecutive years starting from your first Class 12 year. If you qualify through JEE Main in your Class 12 year but decide not to write JEE Advanced, that year still counts as one of your two eligible years.
What makes a candidate ineligible for JEE Advanced?
The most common reasons are simple: not making the top 2,50,000 in JEE Main, a Class 12 year outside the window, a date of birth before the cutoff, or having been admitted to an IIT earlier. Some cases — such as a previous IIT seat that was cancelled — have specific rules; read the 2027 brochure or write to the organising IIT rather than assuming.
What should you check before registering?
Your JEE Main 2027 result and category rank, your date of birth as recorded on your Class 10 certificate, your Class 12 year of first appearance, and any category or PwD certificate you intend to claim. Register only after all four line up.
