NEET syllabus changes for 2027: what is settled, and what to study now
The NEET UG 2027 syllabus had not been notified as of September 2026, so the NMC-prescribed 2026 syllabus — 20 Physics units, 20 Chemistry units and 10 Biology units across 32 NCERT chapters — is the one to study. This article separates what is confirmed from what is only expected, and names the chapters worth extra hours either way.

Has the NEET syllabus changed for 2027?

The National Medical Commission prescribes the NEET UG syllabus and NTA publishes it with the information bulletin, and neither had issued a 2027 version when this article was last reviewed. Until they do, the 2026 syllabus is the syllabus: 20 Physics units, 20 Chemistry units and 10 Biology units covering 32 NCERT chapters.

What did the last revision actually change?
The 2024 revision aligned the NEET UG syllabus with the rationalised NCERT textbooks. Biology now follows the current books, which is why our chapter tables list 32 Biology chapters rather than the older count. This is the change most "deleted topics" lists are still describing, three years later.
The important detail is that alignment was not total. p-Block Elements stayed in the Chemistry syllabus even though the current NCERT books dropped those chapters, so a student who owns only the newest edition has a gap that the syllabus still examines. Check each unit against the official syllabus rather than against your textbook's contents page, because a unit in the syllabus is examinable even where the rationalised book trimmed it.
Did the 2025 pattern change reduce the syllabus?
No. From 2025 the paper dropped the optional Section B, so NEET UG has 180 compulsory questions in 180 minutes instead of 200 questions with a choice. Fewer questions on the day, the same syllabus behind them — and less room to skip a topic you dislike, because there is no optional section to hide in. Waiting on a notification is not a study plan
The 20-minute diagnostic maps the chapters where your marks leak today, and writes tomorrow around them. The syllabus wording can change later; your weak chapters will not.
Which chapters deserve extra time?
Priorities follow the paper, and the paper has not moved: Biology is 90 of the 180 questions and 360 of the 720 marks. A student who is strong in Biology and shaky in Physics is usually one subject away from a much better rank — which is why our NEET Physics page exists as a separate plan rather than a footnote.
The table below is our reading of recent papers, not an official weightage, because NTA publishes none. Use it to decide the order of your revision, not to skip anything: a chapter worth "two questions" is still eight marks, and eight marks moves a rank band at this level.

What should you do if the syllabus does change?
Very little, and slowly. Three rules keep a change from costing you a month:
Wait for the bulletin, then diff it yourself. Open the official syllabus beside the unit list you have been studying and mark only what genuinely differs. This takes an hour and replaces a week of anxious scrolling.
Never delete a chapter mid-cycle on hearsay. Students who dropped p-Block after the NCERT rationalisation lost marks they had already paid for in study time. If a topic leaves the syllabus, the cost of having studied it is one revision slot; if it stays and you dropped it, the cost is four marks a question.

Is p-Block Elements still in the NEET syllabus?
Yes. p-Block Elements remained in the NEET Chemistry syllabus even after NCERT dropped those chapters from the rationalised textbooks, so students working from the newest edition need the older NCERT chapters for that unit. Check every Chemistry unit against the official syllabus rather than your textbook contents page, because the syllabus decides what is examinable.
