NEET answer key 2027: check your code, count your score, challenge errors
The NEET answer key 2027 will be published by NTA on neet.nta.nic.in as a provisional key covering every question paper code, expected in early June 2027. You match it to your recorded OMR responses, score yourself at +4 for each correct and −1 for each wrong answer, and challenge any answer you believe is wrong within the notice window.
Quick answer
- The NEET UG 2027 provisional answer key is expected in early June 2027 on neet.nta.nic.in, covering every question paper code.
- Your NEET score from the answer key is 4 times the correct answers minus the wrong answers; blank questions score 0.
- Candidates can challenge a provisional NEET answer by paying a fee per question and uploading a justification within the window NTA sets.
- NTA’s final NEET answer key comes with the result, and scores are calculated only from the final key.

How do you calculate your NEET score from the answer key?
Count three numbers against the key for your own question paper code, then apply the marking scheme. Worked example for a student with 150 correct, 20 wrong and 10 blank.
| What you count | Marks each | Example | Marks |
|---|---|---|---|
| Correct answers | +4 | 150 | +600 |
| Wrong answers | −1 | 20 | −20 |
| Unattempted questions | 0 | 10 | 0 |
| Your score | 180 questions | 580 / 720 |
Or skip the arithmetic: the free NEET score calculator does it for you.
Where will the NEET answer key 2027 be published?
The official NEET UG answer key is published only on neet.nta.nic.in, with a public notice on nta.ac.in. It is expected in early June 2027. In recent cycles NTA has shown candidates their recorded OMR responses at the same time, so you can check your answers against what the scanner actually read — not just against what you remember.
How do you check the answer key for your question paper code?
NEET UG is printed in several question paper codes. The questions are the same material, but their order and option order differ between codes. That means question 57 in one code is not question 57 in another.
- Find your code on your test booklet or the response sheet on the NTA portal.
- Open the key for that code only.
- Compare each question number with your recorded response, and mark it correct, wrong or blank.
- Add up the three counts and apply +4, −1 and 0 — or enter them in the NEET score calculator.
The single most common mistake is scoring yourself with an unofficial key for a different code. If your estimate looks strangely low, check the code before anything else.
Where can you find solutions to the NEET paper?
An answer key gives the right option, not the reasoning. For worked solutions, use our NEET previous year papers, which are solved with NCERT references. If an answer surprises you, work the solution through before deciding to challenge it — many "wrong keys" turn out to be a misread question.
Know your score. Now see what it means.
Put your marks into the NEET rank predictor for an honest rank range, then use the months before counselling well.
How do you challenge the NEET answer key?
During the challenge window you log in to the NEET UG candidate portal, pick the question you are disputing, choose the answer you believe is correct, upload a justification — usually a textbook reference or a worked solution — and pay the fee for each question challenged. The fee and whether it is refunded if your challenge succeeds are set in NTA's notice for that year.
A few practical points:
- Challenge only what you can prove. A clear NCERT line or a complete calculation is far stronger than "the coaching key says otherwise".
- Don't wait for the last day. Payment gateways get slow as the window closes.
- One challenge is enough. If a key is changed, the correction applies to every candidate, not only to those who challenged.
What happens to dropped questions?
If NTA's experts find that a question had no correct option or more than one, the final key reflects it. How such questions are scored is set out in the information bulletin and the final key notice. Read that rule before you compare a borderline score with the NEET cutoff.
What should you do between the answer key and the result?
Estimate your rank range, then start preparing for counselling rather than waiting: gather certificates, check your category and domicile documents, and read how NEET counselling works. If your score is well short of your target, this is also the time to decide calmly whether another attempt makes sense.
NEET answer key questions
When will the NEET answer key 2027 be released?
The NEET UG 2027 provisional answer key is expected in early June 2027, about a month after the exam, based on recent cycles. NTA publishes it on neet.nta.nic.in for all question paper codes, followed by a short challenge window. The final answer key is released with the result, expected in mid-June 2027.
How do I calculate my NEET score using the answer key?
To calculate a NEET score, compare your responses with the answer key for your own question paper code, count correct, wrong and unattempted answers, then multiply correct answers by 4 and subtract the number of wrong answers. Unattempted questions score 0. For example, 150 correct and 20 wrong answers give 580 out of 720.
Why is my question paper code important for the NEET answer key?
NEET UG is printed in several question paper codes, and the order of questions and options differs between them. Checking your answers against the key for a different code gives a meaningless score. Find your code on your test booklet or the response sheet on the NTA portal and use only that code’s key.
How can I challenge the NEET answer key?
You challenge the NEET UG provisional answer key online during the window NTA announces: log in to the candidate portal, select the question, choose the answer you believe is correct, upload a justification and pay the fee for each question. Experts review every challenge, and any correction applies to all candidates in the final key.
Are unofficial NEET answer keys from coaching institutes reliable?
Unofficial NEET answer keys published on exam evening are usually close for most questions, but they can differ on a few disputed answers and are often for a single code. Use them for a first estimate only. Your actual NEET score is calculated from NTA’s final answer key and your recorded OMR responses.
