NEET marks vs rank

How your NEET score is calculated

BrainStride is an AI tutor for JEE, NEET and Olympiad preparation that runs a 20-minute diagnostic, maps your weak chapters and writes a daily plan, with every solution checked by teachers. This calculator is the free, no-account part.

What is the NEET UG marking scheme?

Since 2025, NEET UG has 180 compulsory questions: Physics 45, Chemistry 45, Botany 45 and Zoology 45, for 720 marks in 180 minutes. A correct answer is +4, an incorrect one is −1 and an unattempted question is 0. So 150 correct and 20 incorrect is 600 − 20 = 580.

How do I count my answers from the answer key?

When NTA releases the provisional answer key, match it against your recorded responses question by question. Count correct and incorrect per subject — the calculator adds Botany and Zoology into your Biology total. If NTA later drops a question or accepts more than one answer, the final key changes the count, so recheck after the final key.

How is the rank band worked out?

We read an approximate marks-vs-rank curve for a 2025-difficulty paper at 10 marks above and below your score, against about 20.8 lakh candidates who appeared in 2025. The 2025 paper was notably tougher — the topper scored 686 — so an easier 2027 paper would push every rank in the table later.

What are the limits?

  • Your score is only as exact as your counts. The rank is always an estimate.
  • Qualifying marks change every year. The check uses the 2025 marks for your category.
  • Category ranks aren't estimated. They depend on each year's category-wise counts.
  • Nothing is stored. Everything runs in your browser.

  • Score against the provisional key, then again against the final key.
  • Count bonus or dropped questions the way NTA’s final key says, not the way coaching WhatsApp groups do.
  • Look at incorrect answers per subject: more than 10 in one subject is usually guessing, and costs 50 marks against getting them right.
  • Compare your score with your last three mocks. If it is far above them, recount.
  • Use the rank band for counselling planning, never as your final rank.

Questions about NEET score calculation

How is the NEET UG score calculated?

The NEET UG score is 4 marks for every correct answer minus 1 mark for every incorrect answer, with 0 for unattempted questions. Since 2025 the paper has 180 compulsory questions for 720 marks. For example, 150 correct and 20 incorrect gives 600 − 20 = 580 marks out of 720.

What rank can I get with 600 marks in NEET?

On a paper as difficult as NEET UG 2025, 600 marks out of 720 was roughly an all-India rank between 1,600 and 3,300. That band is approximate, from published analyses. On an easier paper, as in 2024, the same 600 marks would land at a noticeably worse rank, so use it for planning, not as a prediction.

What are the NEET UG qualifying marks for 2025?

In NEET UG 2025, General and EWS candidates needed 144 marks (the 50th percentile), OBC, SC and ST candidates needed 113 marks (the 40th percentile), and General-PwD candidates needed 127 marks (the 45th percentile). The NEET UG 2027 qualifying marks will depend on that year’s scores.

Should I leave a NEET question blank or guess?

In NEET UG, a wrong answer costs 1 mark and a right one earns 4, so a pure guess among four options breaks even on average. Guessing helps when you can rule out two options and hurts when you can rule out none. Counting incorrect answers per subject in this NEET score calculator shows whether guessing is costing you.

When is the NEET UG 2027 answer key released?

NEET UG 2027 is expected on the first Sunday of May 2027. Based on recent years, NTA usually releases the provisional answer key in early June with a short window to challenge answers, followed by the final key and the result in mid-June. Official dates come only from neet.nta.nic.in.

Does this calculator store my responses?

No. The NEET score calculator runs in your browser and does not store or send the counts or category you enter. You do not need an account or an email address. If you want a revision plan built around your weak chapters, the free BrainStride diagnostic is a separate, optional step.
